BROOKINGS, Ore. -- The community is invited to the second annual Student Achievement Night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Brookings-Harbor High School, 625 Pioneer St.

Last year, this event replaced the traditional Student Awards Ceremony held during a mid-day assembly in past years. It’s an interactive night when families and community members can visit classrooms to see demonstrations and hear presentations from students about what they have learned throughout the year.

This year, doors will open at 4:45 p.m. Early activities include the opportunity to tour classrooms  and fill out passports for a door prize drawing from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and a farmers market booth hosted by the Youth Transition Program’s STEM Eco Class from 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

From 6 to 6:30 p.m. there will be exhibitions in the BHHS cafeteria including a robotics demonstration from 6 to 6:15 p.m. and a Knowledge Bowl presentation from 6:15 to 6:30 p.m. This year, the BHHS Robotics Team (Team 4110: DEEP SPACE NINERS) won in the finals of the FIRST Robotics District Meet in Lake Oswego and earned a trip to the Pacific Northwest FIRST District Championship in Tacoma, Washington. The BHHS Knowledge Bowl team traveled to Chicago for the NAQT Small Schools National Championship earlier this month, where they finished in the top 25 teams in the U.S. At 6:35 p.m. a door prize drawing will be held, followed by a teaser of an upcoming performance by the BHHS Drama Department at 6:40 p.m. in the cafeteria.

The evening will conclude with the presentation departmental awards for outstanding students starting at 6:45 p.m. in the BHHS Auditorium.
