Academic Excellence Day Highlights – Wednesday, October 15, 2025

Brookings-Harbor High School students will take part in a full day of hands-on learning, college and career exploration, and academic growth during Academic Excellence Day on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. This annual event is designed to inspire every grade level—from freshmen to seniors—to think deeply about their goals and next steps after high school.

Freshmen: Exploring College and Career Pathways

Ninth-grade students will spend the morning at Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) for a series of campus tours and interactive workshops. The visit gives students an early look at college life and introduces them to local career-technical and academic opportunities.
After returning to campus, freshmen will complete their first Career-Related Learning Experience (CRLE) and continue work on their Career Information System (CIS) portfolios—important steps in Oregon’s high school graduation plan.

Sophomores: Academic Growth Through the PSAT

Tenth-grade students will focus on academic preparation by taking the Preliminary SAT (PSAT), an important opportunity to practice college entrance testing and identify areas of academic strength. Following the exam, sophomores will meet in advisory groups to reflect on their results and discuss college and career readiness goals.

Juniors: Lessons from Storytelling and Reflection

Eleventh-grade students will walk to the Redwood Theater to view an educational film experience that encourages critical thinking and self-reflection. The film will serve as a springboard for advisory discussions about educational aspirations and resilience in the face of challenges.

Seniors: Preparing for What’s Next

Twelfth-grade students will participate in a rotation of postsecondary readiness workshops designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Sessions include:

  • First Aid/CPR Certification with Mr. Anderson

  • College and Career Readiness with SWOCC staff

  • Career Insights from Curry Health Network and the Oregon Department of Forestry

  • Graduation and Senior Essentials with Jostens
These sessions provide practical skills, professional insights, and graduation preparation to ensure seniors are ready for their next steps—whether college, trade school, or entering the workforce.
