Friday (08/21/20), Oregon Gov. Kate Brown gave a Press Briefing, in which she shared updates on the challenges facing schools reopening in Oregon.
ON-TRACK FOR K-3
- Under a special exemption that uses a different set of metrics that must be met for grades Kindergarten through 3rd Grade, Curry County remains on track for BHSD to begin the year with a hybrid of in-person half days and distance learning for Grades K-3, with the first classroom day on Friday, Sept. 11. BHSD's academic year begins on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Learn more about our fall orientation activities and in-person start date details by grade.
CURRENT METRICS MEAN CDL ONLY FOR 4-12
- Statewide and locally, our district does not yet meet the metrics that allow for in-school instruction for Grades 4-12. Expect our students to start the academic year in comprehensive distance learning (CDL) for these grade levels when BHSD's academic year begins on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Learn more about our fall orientation activities and in-person start date details by grade.
- It has already been announced that Grades 6-12 will remain in distance learning for the full first quarter until Oct. 30.
- We will monitor the week-by-week situation for Grades 4-5 in hopes of an earlier return to classrooms (currently slated for Friday, Sept. 18, if metrics improve).
